ouTREACH

Some of my fondest memories along this journey has been when we had the opportunity to reach out to our communities to spread education and support to underserved populations.

Volunteer work

  • GIVE KIDS A SMILE

    • We had the privilege to be a part of a volunteer children's dental health fair at the Powell Butte Elementary School.  We assisted an incredible advocate for children's oral health, Dr. Love, by presenting posters and visual aids to educate both children and their parents on how to care for their teeth and what foods contain harmful sugar and acid.  I was part of a station where we set up a station where children could learn how to floss using pipe cleaners, ice cube trays and play-doh.

  • MULTNOHMA COUNTY - BABY DAYS

    • At the county sponsored free dental service day for babies and children, I got to dress up as Santa and greet the children at the door.  We helped the children feel comfortable and happy to be in a dental office.

Rotations

  • REYNOLDS SCHOOL DISTRICT SEALANT PROGRAM

    • We assisted the resident hygienist in placing sealants and fluoride on children in the 3rd grade.

  • RUSSEL STREET CLINIC

    • I had the opportunity to treat patients at the OHSU Russel Street Clinic that are HIV and AIDS positive who would otherwise have difficulty getting quality care, or care without biases otherwise.

  • BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB OF SALEM, OR

    • By far my favorite rotation due to the caring nature of the woman running the clinic and the learning experience that ensued.  I treated children who were rejected from receiving oral health care elsewhere due to their disabilities or financial status.  It is my wish to continue to volunteer at this clinic throughout my career.
